APPRAISAL OF SEEMING GAPS IN THE LABOUR STANDARDS

Using evidence from international reports, peer-reviewed literature, and policy documents, the paper argues that the disconnect between labour standards and social protection frameworks reflects deeper structural and governance challenges rather than mere policy absence. The paper advances a critical perspective on current policy approaches, emphasizing the need for legal reforms, expanded coverage, strengthened enforcement, and inclusive social dialogue anchored in tripartism. It concludes that closing these gaps is essential for promoting decent work, reducing vulnerability, and fostering equitable and sustainable development, and calls for integrated, context-responsive reforms that align labour standards with comprehensive social protection for all categories of workers.
