Abstract

The study explored the Assessment Techniques as determinants of Secondary School students' learning outcomes in Ondo State, considering the prevailing challenges of students' academic performance and the differences in assessment practices among the secondary schools. The study used a descriptive survey research design. The population consisted of secondary teachers and students in Ondo state while the sample of 400 was drawn using Taro Yamane sampling technique and simple random sampling. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data, which had a reliability index of 0.82. The mean and SD were utilized for data analysis. The results indicated that the implementation of formative assessment, summative assessment, and feedback practices have positive effects on students' learning outcomes. Implementing the assessment techniques significantly influences students' academic performance, it was concluded. The study suggested teachers to be more conscious of the need for balanced assessment and giving constructive comments to improve learning outcomes.
