TEACHERS' LEGAL RIGHTS IN THE CONTEXT OF CONFLICT RESOLUTIONS IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN NIGERIA

This paper examined the tension between teachers’ legal rights and increasing parental interference in matters of discipline, conflict resolution, and punishment of disobedience in secondary schools in Nigeria. Teachers play a critical role in maintaining order and promoting a conducive learning environment; however, their authority is often challenged by parents who intervene in disciplinary decisions. While parental involvement in education is essential, excessive interference may undermine teachers’ professional autonomy and weaken the school’s disciplinary framework. It recommends clearer policy guidelines on school discipline, stronger institutional support for teachers, and improved communication channels between schools and parents.
