Abstract

This study examined the influence of principals’ interpersonal intelligence on teachers’ job performance in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State. It was guided by two research questions and two hypotheses which was tested at 0.05 level of significance. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study consisted all the 495 teachers in the 19 government secondary schools in Awka South LGA. A sample size of 278 teachers was drawn using simple random sampling technique. A 20 -item researcher-developed instrument titled “Influence of Principals Interpersonal Intelligence on Teachers Job Performance Questionnaire” (IPIITJPQ) was used to elicit information from the participants and utilized for data collection. The instruments were face validated by three experts and subjected to internal consistency test using Cronbach alpha method which yielded 0.83. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while t-test was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level the significance. The findings revealed among others that all the respondents agreed on the perceived influence of the principals’ decision-making strategy on the teachers’ job performance. It therefore recommended that principals should be encouraged by the relevant education agency to do well and incorporate the teachers in the decision-making process to reduce stress and difficulty experienced by principals in trying to enforce one action. Also, principals should be exposed to seminars on information sharing skills.
