JOB COMMITMENT AS A PREDICTOR OF TEACHERS’ JOB EFFECTIVENESS IN DELTA STATE, NIGERIA

This study investigated the predictive role of job commitment on teachers' job effectiveness in public secondary schools in Delta State, Nigeria. Two research questions guided the study while two null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 alpha level. Correlation research design was employed for the study. The population of the study comprised approximately 13,531 teachers in the 12 public secondary school in Delta North Sectorial Zone in Delta State. The sample size for the study was 377 teachers selected from 7 schools out of 12 public secondary school in Oshimili South LGA using stratified random sampling technique. Data were collected from a representative sample of teachers using Job Commitment Questionnaire (JCQ) and Teachers' Job Effectiveness Questionnaire (TJEQ). JCQ and TJEQ were validated by three experts, two from educational management and policy and one from Department of Educational Foundations, all in Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. Data analysis was conducted using regression analysis. Findings revealed that job commitment positively and insignificantly predicted teachers' job effectiveness. In view of the findings of the study, it was recommended that Ministry of Education should come up with clear training programmes for teachers to teach them about the vitality of prioritizing their affective commitment so as to boost their job effectiveness.
