Abstract

This study examined the influence of teachers’ motivation on quality assurance in public secondary schools in Anambra State, Nigeria. Specifically, it addressed four research questions and tested four null hypotheses at the 0.05 level of significance. A descriptive survey design was adopted, with a sample of 990 teachers selected from a population of 4,868 public secondary school teachers in the state. Data were collected using two researcher-developed instruments: the Work Motivation Scale (WMS) and the Quality Assurance Questionnaire (QAQ), both validated by experts in educational management and measurement and evaluation. The direct delivery method was used for data collection, and the data were analyzed using SPSS version 23. Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient and t-tests were employed to answer the research questions and test the hypotheses. The findings revealed that teachers’ motivation does not significantly influence the quality of the curriculum. However, it has a strong positive influence on the quality of safety, care, and the learning environment in schools. Based on these findings, it was recommended that secondary schools in Anambra State promote a culture that values and rewards high-quality teaching. This can be achieved by assigning explicit responsibilities related to pedagogical quality to academic boards and the Educational Policy and Standards Committee.
