UTILISATION OF DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES FOR TRANSFORMATION OF TEACHING AND LEARNING OF CURRICULUM COURSE IN PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES IN ANAMBRA STATE OF NIGERIA

Abstract

Digital technology is an important tool in the 21st century, which has tremendously transformed Nigerian education system. The most transformed area is the mode of instructional delivery. Consequently, this study investigated the utilisation of digital technologies for transformation of teaching and learning of Curriculum course in public universities in Anambra State of Nigeria. Two research questions guided the study. Descriptive survey design was adopted. Researchers’ self-developed 20 items questionnaire, which was validated by three experts, was used to collect data from 25 Curriculum course lecturers in the Departments of Educational Foundations of the two universities. The reliability coefficient of the instrument was 0.78. Data collected were analyzed using mean. The finding of the study revealed that lecturers utilise digital technologies for transformation of teaching and learning of Curriculum course to a low extent. Also, that high cost of internet subscription, slow internet speed, insufficient availability of digital instructional devices among others are the constraints to the utilisation of digital technologies for transformation of teaching and learning of Curriculum course. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended among others that Federal Government in collaboration with the university authorities should organise periodic trainings in form of workshop, conference and seminars to enable the lecturers acquire the skills and be able to equip the students for the future.
