Abstract

Classroom management over the years has served as a conceptual procedure for promoting students’ academic engagement. Although, the Classroom management practices appear to be the most acceptable means of ensuring students compatibly for academic success, within the holistic and comprehensive framework classroom management there is gap between knowledge of classroom management and teachers practices of the phenomenon. However, this gap emanates as result of teachers’ lack of involving experience, laxity toward work and professional development. This paper examined teachers’ classroom management practices for promoting students’ academic engagement in secondary schools in Anambra State. The paper discussed enforcement of rules, positive interpersonal relationship, appropriate teaching methods and consistent disciplinary activities as classroom management practices that promotes students’ academic engagement in Anmbra state. It was recommended that teachers, should understand the importance of enforcing rules and ensuring students adhere the rules for effective academic engagement and also should maintain consistent disciplinary activities for all misconduct.
