MULTIMEDIA CONTENT CREATION AND SOFTWARE APPLICATION SKILLS NEEDED BY LECTURERS FOR TEACHING ACCOUNTING COURSES IN PUBLIC TERTIARY INSTITUTION IN ANAMBRA STATE

This study investigated the multimedia content creation and software application skills needed by accounting lecturers for teaching accounting courses in public tertiary institutions in Anambra State. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The population of the study comprised 322 accounting lecturers from the six public tertiary institutions in Anambra State offering accounting courses. The entire population was utilized due to its manageable size. A structured questionnaire was developed by the researcher and validated by three experts. Reliability was established through a pilot test involving 20 accounting lecturers in Imo State, excluded from the study’s population. The pilot test results were analyzed using Cronbach’s Alpha. This yielded reliability coefficient of 0.85 for the multimedia content creation skills section and 0.82 for the software application skills section, with an average reliability coefficient of 0.835. Data analysis involved calculating the weighted means of the needs and performance categories to answer the research questions while t-test was used to test the hypotheses a 0.05 level of significance. The finding of the study revealed that accounting lecturers in public tertiary institutions in Anambra State need training on their multimedia content creation skills for teaching accounting courses. It was also revealed that accounting lecturers in public tertiary institutions in Anambra State need training on their software application skills for teaching accounting courses. Furthermore, the finding of the study revealed significant differences in the multimedia content creation and software application skills needed by accounting lecturers based on age. It was therefore recommended among others that administrators of Business Education programme in tertiary institutions in Anambra State should organise professional development programmes to enhance multimedia content creation skills among accounting lecturers.
