INFORMATION NEEDS, ACCESS AND USE BY LEGAL PRACTITIONERS IN ANAMBRA STATE JUDICIARY LIBRARY

Abstract

This research examined the Information needs, access and use by legal practitioners in Anambra state Judiciary library. research questions guided the study. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population for the study comprised of 121 legal practitioners in Anambra state judiciary library. No sampling technique was used. The main instruments for data collection were a checklist and questionnaire. Data collected was analyzed using descriptive statistics of mean scores. The study found that the majority of the legal information resources were available in Anambra State judiciary library, Awka. The Information needs of legal practitioners in Anambra state judiciary library are international legal information, criminal and constitutional legal information, and legal matters concerning rights of citizens, etc. The extent of information access by legal practitioners in Anambra state judiciary library was high. The study concludes that the information needs of legal practitioner are paramount and important in their services and task in the various law firms, courts and bars. The availability of these legal information resources will enable their access to these legal information resources which will support their task
