Abstract

Promotion of academic staff in higher institutions is an essential component of educational administration because it contributes to professional development, institutional effectiveness, and the overall improvement of teaching and research activities. In tertiary institutions such as universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education, promotion is not merely granted based on seniority or years of service but is regulated by established legal and administrative frameworks. These frameworks provide clear procedures and criteria that guide how academic staff progress from one rank to another within the academic structure. Through such legal provisions, institutions are able to ensure fairness, transparency, and accountability in staff career advancement. This study therefore discussed the solutions to the challenges affecting promotion of academic staff in higher institutions
