Abstract

The removals of fuel subsidy have brought untold hardship to most families without a steady viable means of livelihood on a daily basis, hence the study was anchored on Coping strategies used by single parents in this fuel subsidy removal in Nigeria. Awka South LGA, Nigeria. Two hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significances. The design of the study was survey research. The population consists of 1,045.  Purposive sampling technique was adopted to select 120 respondent that were made up of 50 single and 70 single women. The researcher designed an instrument titled “coping strategies used by single parents in this fuel subsidy removal” (CSSPFSR), which was used for data collection in this study. The questionnaire consists of two sections (A and B). The reliability of the instrument yielded reliability coefficient of r-0.86. The data collected were analyzed using t test. findings revealed that therefore the result show that there is a significant difference in the coping strategies used by educated single parents and uneducated single parents after fuel subsidy removal. The study conclude that the fuel subsidy removal has impacted single parents negatively. The educated single parents have adopted a strategy of multi source of income to combat the present-day hardship sensor by fuel subsidy removal.it was recommended that Government should come up with incentive packages for single parents, to enable meet up with family demand and responsibilities of raising children that are not morally bankrupt.
