Abstract

The study investigated the perceived impact of training and development on the academic performance of Fine Art students at Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), focusing on academic achievement, skill development, and motivation. A descriptive survey design with a mixed-method approach was employed, combining both quantitative and qualitative data collected from 102 students using structured questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. Descriptive and inferential statistical analyses, alongside thematic analysis of interview responses, were applied. The findings showed a significant positive effect of structured training programs on academic performance, with students reporting improvements in grades, project evaluations, and overall academic achievement. Development initiatives, including expert-led workshops and personalized guidance, were found to enhance skills and motivation. Additionally, resource availability, particularly technological and physical resources, was identified as crucial for practical learning and academic success. The study recommended that IAUE revise its curriculum to emphasize creativity and problem-solving, enhance feedback mechanisms, foster peer support networks, and increase investments in both technological and physical resources to better prepare students for academic and professional success
