This study examined the influence of Biology teachers’ workload on their job satisfaction and stress level in secondary schools in Enugu education zone. It was guided by two research questions and two hypotheses. It adopted descriptive survey design. The population of the study comprised 86 Biology teachers in the 32 public secondary schools in Enugu education zone of Enugu State. There was no sampling for this study because the population was manageable. Three instruments were employed for data collection namely, teacher workload scale (TWS), job satisfaction questionnaire (JSQ), and teacher stress questionnaire (TSQ). The instrument was validated by three experts in the Faculty of Education, Enugu State University of Science and Technology. The reliability of the instrument was established using Cronbach alpha which yielded reliability indexes of 0.78, 0.84, and 0.86 for workload, job satisfaction and stress level respectively. The data collected were analyzed using mean ratings for research questions while t-test was used for the hypotheses. One of the major findings revealed that teachers who had excess workload tended to have lower job satisfaction than those with moderate workload. Based on the findings of this study, it was recommended that schools and organizations should work together to ensure that teachers’ workload are manageable enough to improve their job satisfaction and regulate their stress level for effectiveness in their job.
