SURVEY ON FACTORS MILITATING AGAINST SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS’ ENROLMENT INTO CLOTHING AND TEXTILE CAREERS HOICE IN SENIOR SECONDARY, OSHILI SOUTH, DELTA STATE

The study aimed at establishing factors militating against secondary school students’ enrolment into Clothing and Textile aspect of Home Economics subject in Oshimili South LGA. Five research purposes and five research questions guided the study. A survey research design was employed, all Home Economics teachers in nineteen secondary schools in Oshimili South, made up the study population, a convenience sampling technique was used to have ninety-four respondents in the study. A structured questionnaire was used for data collection and data collected was analyzed using mean statistics. Results revealed that, Home Economics curriculum at pre vocational do not have career opportunities specified in it-X=2.2, teaching—learning environment was not conducive-X=2.2. teachers’ knowledge and skill efficiency in teaching Clothing Textile was X—1.9 among others. Based on these findings, it was recommended that Home Economics Professional Association should review the present pre-vocational curriculum to up-load career opportunities in clothing and Textiles.
