UTILIZATION OF E-RESOURCES FOR TEACHING BY CHEMISTRY EDUCATION LECTURERS IN HIGHER INSTITUTION IN SOUTH EAST, NIGERIA

The study investigated the utilization of E-resources for teaching by chemistry education lecturers in higher institution in south east, Nigeria. Two research questions guided the study and one null hypothesis was tested at 0.05 alpha level. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. Population for the study comprised 102 chemistry education lecturers which comprised of 74 males and 28 females in higher institutions in South East, Nigeria. There was no need for sampling since the population was of a manageable size. The instrument for data collection for this study was questionnaire developed by the researchers. The instrument was validated by three experts, two in the Department of Science Education and another one in the Department of Educational Foundations (Measurement and Evaluation Unit), Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. Cronbach Alpha was used to determine the internal consistency of the instrument which yielded an alpha coefficient value of 0.76. The mean and independent t-test was the statistical tool used for data analysis. The findings of the study showed that e-resources are not utilized for teaching by chemistry education lecturers in higher institutions in South East Nigeria. It was recommended among others that government should integrate e-resource training and support programme for lecturers in higher institutions. This programme should provide comprehensive training on the effective use of e-resources for teaching and research.
