IMPACT OF AGRICULTURAL VALUE CHAIN DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME ON RICE PRODUCTION
Abstract
The study determined the major impacts made by the agricultural value chain development programme on rice production in Anambra State. Nigeria having considered the huge investment made by the government on its implementation the study made review of the reports from previous researchers relating to value chain development programme and rice production. The study found out among others that farmers socio economic status influences their prosperity to adopt recommended rice production technologies. That there is a relative change in positive direction on the number of farmers that were willing to invest or increase their level of investment; that exposure to the programme led to the increase in the farmers crop yield. That the farmers were generally satisfied with the programme implementation and that a major constraint the programme was delay or lateness in providing or supplying farm inputs. It was recommended that the problem of inadequate farm machinery should be addressed by the government and other relevant stakeholder in collaboration among others.
